The face-off between Google and Facebook is inevitable;
according to Alexa.com, either Google and Facebook are ranked number 1 or
number 2 in different countries around the world.
The question, which
is better, in terms of marketing?
Let’s talk about Facebook then. According to internet
research statistics, we can actually see that internet users all over the
world, spend the most time on Facebook than anywhere else. Facebook is a very
good platform for social connections; you can receive updates and news from
your friends on Facebook at a very fast speed and on real time. This is good
news for marketers because Facebook actually enhances viral word of mouth
between Facebook users and their friends.
Viral marketing on Facebook is virtually free all you need
is to connect and interact with your clients constantly. You can also pay to
advertise on Facebook to connect with prospects that fits well into your
targeted audience profile and thus increase your chances of potential business
revenue from Facebook
Google is still the Godfather of Search today. And a good
search marketing campaign on Google can actually have relatively better results
in terms of marketing conversion.
Why is it so? People search when they are looking for
something they wanted so badly and urgently. That means that the probability of
them buying, will be very high because they need something right now and right
at this moment.
Google, in terms of
search, did a pretty good job than Facebook. This searching lifestyle has
somehow integrated into our lives. When we search for something online, we will
say, “we google for something”. The time on Google need not be longer because
the search results are very fast and it brings the users to another website
address. The time on Facebook is longer because people are spending time
playing games, chatting, uploading their activities on Facebook like a personal
diary. So comparing Facebook and Google on the basis of time spent on website
may not be a good indicator to measure which is an more effective form of
marketing method.
Facebook is great for branding purposes rather than
marketing purposes. The probability of ad conversion may not be higher than
Google search because Facebook users may not have that immediate need of the products
and services the moment they see the ads that Facebook advertisers display or see their friends recommends your
brand on their walls; In short, Facebook enhances your branding through peers
recommendation which helps the spreading of words fast.
So, if I were you, I would use both of them. Google for your
marketing purposes and Facebook for branding purposes. This is because both
Google and Facebook have their own uniqueness and benefits for the brand.
